The Days Go By

(Thinking ahead; way way ahead)

The days go by; the months and years,

I’ve seen it all; the joy and tears.

Our children’s children live in hope

of a bright new world without the fears.

As I grow old each year’s a prize,

and each new month’s a new surprise

And each new day is surely blessed

until that day when I close my eyes.

For now I see with wider view,

the things I missed when life was new.

How sweet was youth and early love,

and natures bounty, form and hue.

One day will be my time to leave,

when time is up - 'his' orders I receive.

So if sometimes you think of me,

remember me but do not grieve.

For though I've had a quiet life

I found myself a loving wife.

With children sadly we weren't blessed

but neither did we have the strife.

We lived in harmony and peace

and knew our love would never cease

In church we vowed, death alone would part

and mortals slow decay will bring release.
