Full Circle

Life is brief like a passing shadow,
and yet it captures all that man can do.
From the safety of a mothers arms,
to quiet surrender when the circle is complete.

But  life is a contradiction from the cradle to the grave.
The apparent eternity of all that has gone before,
until the inevitable realisation that all is done,
and that now the future belongs to someone else.

But there remains a curious conundrum.

For, from the countless past generations
few of us will have known their ancestors

beyond their grandparents.

And likewise our descendants,

Few will know them beyond their grandchildren.
Just seven generations is all that most of us will know.

That will be the sum of knowledge of our stay on this earth.

And as the genes from each generation

are passed on to the next,

slightly different through an ever changing

gene pool and natural evolution.

And as we grow and change and develop,

so the circle of life continues.

In its wondrous way  it is  complete,

but for ever changing.
