Thanksgiving

To my family and friends wherever you may be

be it close as rubbing shoulders, or far across the sea.

I came across a book of poems, old and most unknown.

One of them was 'Thanksgiving'  to celebrate the year back then                 to which I've added extra words  to that anonymous pen.

To friends old and new, the wish that seeds of hope are also sown.

The original anonymous words are highlighted.

                             Thanksgiving

The year has turned it's circleanother year has gone.

Once more the seasons come and go, for us and everyone.

The harvest is all gathered in, the barley, wheat, and corn.

Now the chilly north winds blow, as we greet each autumn dawn.

The orchards have shared their treasures, the baskets all are full.

The fields, their yellow grain as well; larders filled before the fall.

So open up your doorways, greet family and friends,

just thank the lord for all his gifts, and pray it never ends.

And find a place in heart and mind, for one who's not you're kin,

for though he may not be your brother, he's the same beneath the skin.

For are we not united, let's pray one day we'll be.

Thank God Thanksgiving's here again, for you, for him, for me.
